A while back I read A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers and really adored it. Sequels make me a bit nervous because it’s hard to say whether or not they’ll carry on the original charm. Thankfully, I needn’t have worried much because A Prayer for the Crown-Shy was equally charming.

This book begins where its predecessor leaves off. Sibling Dex and new-found friend Mosscap are headed back to civilization so that Mosscap can answer it’s question - what does Humanity need?

This book felt just as cozy and heart-warming as the one before it and I was happy to sink back into the world of Panga. While I didn’t think this story was quite as memorable as the original, the characters are still wonderfully charming and everything I want from a low-stakes, introspective novel.

I appreciated the continued world-building and the meaningful conversations between Sibling Dex and Mosscap. I especially enjoyed getting to meet Sibling Dex’s family and seeing more of the world of Panga. These stories are immediately immersive but in a gentle sort of way that I find really comforting and relaxing.

If you enjoyed A Psalm for the Wild-Built, definitely pick this one up (or, if you haven’t read it yet, you should!). It’s a great novella to curl up with, especially if you have a steaming cup of tea near by.
